Pretty much US, Canada, UK, and EU. Australia/NZ was kind of "iffy" but because of their location I didn't include them.
For the EU I would only include the original EU members west of the Iron Curtain, plus possibly the Czech Republic. The new eastern members aren't really Western in my mind. I just can't see Poland, Bulgaria and Romania as part of the West.
Turkey is the only one that’s a grey area. They’re part of NATO but are also the crossroads between Europe and Asia (similar to Russia). Japan has no business on this list.
Neither Turkey nor Russia are Western. Turkey is a Middle Eastern nation, over 90% of its land is not in Europe and culturally and religiously they are more similar to Iraq and Iran than to the West. Turkey has become increasingly Islamist and less democratic as well since Erdogan has been in power, and they are too friendly to both Russian, Iran, and the Palestinians.
Never was such a pointless, useless debate as the one about what is "the West". Such a byzantine discussion.
Well it's a common term used globally. Same could be said for the term "Latin America", not exactly accurate either.
