I'm an absolute believer in this. I never, ever lend anything. If someone has a need, I'll give what I have. If they give it back, that's between them and God. I never expect it.
I mention this not because I think I'm a great person for doing this but as an encouragement for others to consider. It really decreases the amount of stress in your life when you give without expectations in return. It's one of the best decisions I've ever made to live by.

Lending does color the way someone sees the borrower. Charity begins at home - another great phrase. In other words, never give when your own are lacking, but if you have enough it's like "Pay it forward," or "What goes around comes around."
Years ago a friend of mine loaned a single mother money for groceries. When she paid it back my friend said, keep it and give to someone else when they need it and you have extra.
The only other caveat on this is don't give in a situation where you put yourself or anyone else in danger. Use common sense, even if it is uncommon.
