I actually did not look gallivant up until after I posted it. My mother used the word a little differently, so I did not know there was an element of carousing in its meaning.

Its a great old word though, no?

I love your references to gadfly. I know I’ve used “gadding around” before. And probably “gadabout.”

I do not hear younger people use these words, but I don’t converse with a variety of young people now. My kids don’t use them, at any rate.

Every so often I hear it pronounced that way. But people don’t use that word much anymore.
