What do you actually mean when you say, "my alarm goes off"?
There is a major difference between the words, "on", and, "off", and thus, saying that the alarm went, "off", may be correct, or it may not be correct--depending on exactly what took place.

If I am trying to help somebody in a car repair oriented forum...How do I know that he/she means, "on", if they are using the word, "off", which has an entirely different meaning?

OK, but think of the alarm as a bomb, for a minute. One doesn't say a bomb goes "on". Firecrackers would be the same, yes?

Alarms, like bombs are something which are set to 'go off' not 'go on'. Right?

And how about traps? When one sets a trap, for instance, we don't say it goes 'on' we say it goes 'off'.

.

I have a button on my dashboard labeled "Recirc Off" and it has a LED. Now, if I push the button and the LED glows, is the air recirculation on or off ?

And to make it even more confusing, satin is real, and Israel is real.

Whether Satan is real is a matter for theologians to debate, I suppose.

If Satan is real, do you think he'd wear satin in Israel?
