I have a friend whose daughter graduated from college with a degree in elementary education a couple years ago. She was told at her school that they do not really place much emphasis on spelling, cursive writing, and the math tables. There goes reading, writing, and 'rithmetic! Sad when you think about it. She was told that the kids will pick these things up on their own.

She quit teaching after one year because she was so disappointed, and she joined the Marines so that she had time to figure out what she wanted to do.

You must be young, it's the 3 R's, Readin', 'ritin, and 'rithmetic.

There were millions that didn't pick these things up when they were being taught and focused on !!

The use of the word 'shutter' in this context has probably been posted before, but I find it amusing that this particular poster thinks he/she is better than the people he/she is talking about...

"I shutter to think what their girls will turn out to be..."

On CNN's front page: "Volunteers pour over satellite image". I wonder what they're pouring.
