We are going on vacation in mid Oct. and we are thinking of driving through ID into WY to see Jackson Hole & Yellowstone. What kind of driving conditions & weather should we expect.

Thanks!

Variable weather, with the possibility of snow in the high country. Typically, comfortably warm days with cool/cold overnight temps, not uncommon to see 30-40 degree shifts from daytime highs to overnight lows.

Keep in mind that much of YNP facilities will be shut down at this time for the season. Best to go to their website and see what's open and available to you at the time of your travel, and from the entrance area that you're planning on heading into the park.

You'll be past the prime fall seasonal colors of the area, so much of the scenery will be brown and barren.

Good to know about YNP I didn't even consider open/closed dates

I know I am bummed about going so late, but it's the only time I can get off from work .

Thanks!!

Don't worry, the Park will still be open and it is the time of year a lot of locals are enjoying the park.

The restaurants , stores and lodges in the park may be closed but you will still have lots to see.

The animals are on the move out of the Park for the winter and you will see some amazing sights. The Elk rut is winding down but you may still see some Bull Elk activity.

Wear some warm gear and you get to see the Park in all it's fall glory. It is already hitting 32 in the Park at night, so bring winter gear.40 degree temp swings are normal all summer and fall.

Oct 15 is general elk season, so the forest is like a small city of orange
