^Agreed.

Being anti-wolf hunting doesn't do the wolves any favors, by the way. When their population explodes and they kill all of their food sources, what's the result? A very large number of starving wolves...
Being pro-wolf management seems to make a lot more sense, if you or anyone else loves them. I personally think they're fascinating, thus why I'd rather see their numbers managed in a way thats beneficial to them as a species (and their environment and prey), rather than decide I love wolves, therefore no one should ever kill wolves, and instead they should be allowed to reproduce in great numbers, kill all of the wild game, and then die themselves, through the starvation and disease that result when any species overpopulates its habitat, or being killed by people when they go after inappropriate food sources, on ranches or maybe even in towns, if they're hungry enough and close enough.

Balance is essential. The site posted below has a lot of interesting information on this subject.

The wolves were erraticated in 1928. They introduced (not reintroduced) wolves a few years ago. I say introduced because this wolf is a McHenzie and is almost twice the size of the original Grey. Their range is much larger and there in lies the problem.

The introduction was in three areas and was designed to keep them in that area and to control it. That's not happening as they range out into the land that is cattle and sheep country. The hunting opened up on wolves to help control those that range up to 500 miles from the original point. Of course, the pressure of tree huggers caused the hunting to stop.

The hunting was not created to take out all the wolves, but to control the population. If it is not controlled, there is much in breeding, lack of food, etc. By controlling the wolves we are actually making them stronger and easily maintain numbers so that the ranchers are not loosing large amounts of livestock.

The problem is, these wolves will kill for training the young, not because of hunnger. Recently there was over 100 sheep killed in one night. NONE were eaten, just killed and left laying. That is what they want to control. If a rancher lost 2 or 3 head in a winter, they probably wouldn't worry about it, but numbers like I mentioned are devastating to the pocketbook.

I like wolves too, I think they are wonderful creatures to watch and study. But there is a limit. I realize we have moved into their territory but remember this, the house you live in, the bussines you work at, the store you shop at, the movie theater you go to, all intruded on some critters home territory. It can't be helped, we are expanding.

Not at all. I was able to see your "tongue-in-cheek" when you made the comment. Loved it!

Wyolady I was a little surprised people took the comment so personally and literally. Nobody got my point that the ratio is not in men's favor.

Exclamation dont bother coming to Wyoming

I hate to be negative but I am a southern girl who has lived on the east coast inclining nyc and boston. The biggest mistake I ever made was coming to wyoming. The good ole boy club is very strong here. You will always be an outsider no matter how long you've been here. The cost of living is pretty low. But, this ain't living. I cannot wait to get out of here and get back to civilization. We have been here since 2003. Have lived in Evanston, Casper, and Rock Springs. Cannot recommend any of them. Best bet stay in Massachusetts.

I might note that Evanston, Casper, and Rock Springs are all based on Construction, Mining, or Oil boom towns. Not what I would call a good representation of the entire state.

Good point elk hunter. I am just frustrated with the medical political community. After having worked at a Harvard hospital the quality of healthcare and the administration of the healthcare facilities I have had to try to deal with here makes the thought of aging here very dismal. And will the snow and wind ever stop. I know if I don't like it I can leave. But I cannot help but wonder why any of us live here.

I've lived in WY for over 20 yrs......and I have to say you are right on this one, suszie q. I've resolved to put up with the "just below the surface" unequal treatment of ladies in the workplace to stay here. Every job I've had I go in with positive thoughts, but always find a network that strives to keep guys at the top and doesn't allow women equal opps. Right down to inappropriate jokes at staff mtgs that the men laught at, the ladies don't.

And please don't tell me to speak up because it is illegal.....how many of you think I will be able to get or keep a job in this right-to-work state if I do that?

Probably my only complaint about living here....it's why I'm still here.

Wyolady, you also bring up a good point. I'm a male so I don't notice those sorts of things. Also, I've owned my own business and I only had 6 employee's, all male (only because no females applied) or I've worked in small environments that didn't have a lot of competition that way.

I can certainly see where that sort of influence could be seen. I just haven't seen it in what I do.
