Yeah, but really - who wants to live in Kali. I don't see people rushing there
Mass exodus from Commiefornica. They are leaving but it is still too crowded there with crazy drivers using their vehicles as weapons and shooting at each other with guns which is not legal there (carry conceal) to carry.
Home invasions, robberies, car jackings, smash n grab burglaries in retail stores and vehicles at an all time high with lots of businesses leaving n closing down because of all this. Lots of racial turmoil of all places with crimes targeted against Asians. Talk about "Diversity".

FYI. Throwing more $ at the problems are NOT THE ANSWER!!

A typical response by those with no clue. Some sheriff's dept in Wyoming (counties we've lived in) are in need of restructuring BADLY. Huge majority do not/will not do their job regardless of how much $ you throw their way. Same with many other entities.
I won't speak on city LEO as we've always lived in the county.

Drug, illegal immigrant, child abdution units are primary needs for a NEW type of agency.

For majority of the rest of needs.

Citizens need to get off their arse and take care of themselves and those who are unable to do so.

There's a case to be made that cities need to prioritize funding for recruitment and retention of law enforcement officers. Given the toxic environment officers have been working in over the past few years existing LEOs have been leaving the profession and taking early retirements in droves, young people are overlooking the profession completely, cities "defunded" and some are now beginning to "refund" departments. In short.............it's a mess.

At a minimum Riverton needs to at least prove to those considering policing in that town, that they:

a) have a supportive city council and city management (who won't throw cops under the bus for expediency sake or political reasons)

b) their salaries and benefit packages are at least competitive with those in neighboring and similar sized towns

Aside from that, money isn't the answer.

There are existing laws against vagrancy, public intoxication, robbery, destruction of property, harassment, assault, etc etc. Enforce the laws on the books, the problems begin to go away. You don't enforce the laws on the books the bad guys are empowered and emboldened, the cops are disempowered and demoralized, and things get worse.

The fact that this issue has gotten to the point it has in Riverton tells me that the REAL problem is much higher up than rank and file street cops.

At the end of the day, it's not rocket science. Not in San Francisco. Not in Portland or Chicago or Baltimore. And not in Riverton.

RE: new type of agency. Maybe so. I don't know. But I WILL say this: I know a DCI agent who lives here in Cody and who is never home. This state is being overrun with drugs. Just like every other state is being overrun with drugs (and all the crime and corruption that goes with it).

THAT is a direct result of this corrupt federal administration that effectively opened the borders to unfettered illegal immigration, and that has made the cartels exponentially richer and more powerful than they were just a few years ago. We need to vote better. The Biden administration has clearly demonstrated its lack of willingness to close the borders and to enforce immigration laws. It has also demonstrated its willingness to lie to the American people about it. The actions of this administration as it relates to the border are directly and demonstrably hurting Wyomingites.

RE: Wyomingites taking care of themselves.
As the saying goes "when seconds count the police are only minutes away".

I know it's an issue that people apply to the small town police depts and use them as a meal ticket to get into the police academy and then when they get the training and some experience they move up and out... back to CO.

I think the real question is why there is a concentration of the ner-do-wells in Riverton. The main population in Fremont County is focused between Riverton, Lander, and the nearby areas around them, like Ft Washakie.

We go shopping in Riverton and Lander regularly and it is not uncommon to see idlers about in Riverton in the daytime... moreso than in Lander. It is a very short distance from the Arapahoe side of the reservation to Riverton, much nearer than from Ft Washakie to Lander. And there is nowhere else to go.... Riverton and Lander and all of Fremont County are a long way from anywhere else. So the bad actors in Fremont County are going to gravitate somewhere.

The fact mentioned in the original article here said there is no jail in Riverton, while there is in Lander. So I suspect that is another factor in the difference. If the arrest rate stated is right, then there is no lack of arrests in Riverton.

You also have to understand that the crime rates stated in the article distort reality. Riverton's 2.9 per 100 annual rate is higher than Detroit, Baltimore and St Louis by 50% or more..... But that works out to around 0.8 violent crimes per day on average.

But that illustrates the fallacy of crime rates when comparing big cities versus small towns, that I have pointed out before on these forums. The actual daily rate of violent crime in Detroit is 38 per day... The calculation of a 'rate' by simply dividing by population is misleading.

And BTW, most of this is going on in Riverton along the main drag (Federal Blvd) and some of the low-rent areas to the east. Other parts of Riverton are not seeing this type of stuff.
