Okay- I have been driving around and noticed all the political signs and one thing that sticks out is that they are all Republican. No political debate wanted but can someone tell me why ? Isn't the Democratic primary at the same time ?

I'd venture to say because most of SC is Republican.

I figured that most must be republican but I am sure I am not the only democrat. If I were to put out signs for my canidate do you think I would be in any danger ?

Definitely not. It's a free country. I'm independent so can't vote in the primaries.

I noticed the same thing and found it to be very strange. I realize that SC is mostly republican, but you would think at least one or two signs would be around supporting the democrats.

We just moved here and did not have to select a party on the form. Actually, I don't think there was a place to select one. It is our understanding we can vote in either primary. Did you actually register as an independent? Maybe you can pick the primary you want to vote in too.

I was thinking along the same lines as Groove until I recently researched this "can I vote?" thing. I am new to this state's system, it had been a while since I registered (long enough to forget about the no party system) and, as a longtime Independent, you get used to not being able to vote in a primary. The two different primaries thing is also a new to me.

Movingdown is correct. In the SC system one is not registered by party. One can vote in either primary, but not both. You do not have to consider yourself a member of the party to vote in their primary. It was not the easiest thing to determine from the state's Elections Commission website, but I found it in a press release. Here is the link Presidential Primary Voter Registration Deadlines Near | SCVotes.org

Here is a link where you can pull up your voter registration info, too, in case you need it
