Does York County have any regulations against having roosters/chickens in residential neighborhoods? Not sure if this would be an Animal Control issue, noise ordinance issue or what not, but to me it doesnt seem appropriate to have farm animals in your backyard in a densely populated neighborhoods. If theres something legally I can do, great. If not, I'll just have to deal with it.
I believe they are only allowed on land categorized farm land, but I suspect if you contact York County Gov and ask, they'll know the codes. I know Rock Hill was at one point considering a "backyard chicken" ordinance change, but not sure about other areas of YC.
I actually called the zoning board today. I was told Chicken ARE allowed within city limits. So if I want to try and curb the noise, I have to file a nuisance complaint with the police dept.
Do you have neighbor with roosters doing the c ock-a-doddle-do every morning at dawn? We had a neighbor with a donkey that cranked up every night after bedtime with the hee-haw-hee-haw for hours!

Not sure if its early in the AM, but it will "roost" in the afternoon and early evening. Seems like the time of day isnt a factor for the rooster. Were a good 5 houses down too. It sounds like its right next to you.
I love to hear the neighbors rooster but then I moved to an area without tree frogs and the absence of their nighttime singing keeps me awake at night.
