Smile Sort of New to Baxter Village

Hey there. My husband and I (and our daughter, who at the time was 8 weeks old) moved to Baxter Village last May. We absolutely LOVE it! We moved from Florida, where I was born and raised. He is from Southern Maryland. He likes that it is similar weather to where he grew up, all the seasons. Everyone here is so nice. Don't be surprised if you make great friends with your neighbors right away.

Just doing more research about registration stuff..
From what I'm finding, you can't get your 4% property tax assessment rate (as opposed to the higher 6% rate) unless you've registered your cars/get SC plates. However, you can't register your cars/get SC plates unless you've paid the personal property tax on them...
Lots of hoops to jump through, it seems. The driver's license seems to be the least important item, but has to be done w/in 90 days of moving.

Hi. I think you might be our new neighbor?? We are moving into Baxter in December. Are you building a Chester with Saussy that is green and was just painted this week?

cltsig - I'm not 100% sure on this, but based on our experience...

Any real estate that is not your permanent residence is taxed at a 6% assessment and I think the millage was 397.0. So multiply the tax value by 6% to get your assessed value, then multiply again by .397 to see what your tax would be.

I say I'm not sure because we started with a bare lot. I don't know if both the 6% and the higher millage are related to non-permanent status, or if one of them is related to unimproved property. To be sure you'd have to check the York County Web site.

Init:

You wouldn't happen to know what the procedure is for DMV for a service-connected, disabled Vet do you?

I read somewhere that my husband would be exempt from taxes on vehicles because of it.

Sure, and people driving BMW's don't hang with people driving Toyota's. Just common sense. And black and white people don't hang together either. Or Chinese and Japanese. Fat and skinny. Tall and short.
