Actually, it appears that WalMart is going to be postponed for several months. They are going to finish the land prep, but the actual building is being delayed. Last I heard anyway, from someone who works for one of the cement companies bidding on the project. I do hope they change their mind, though, as I'm tired of having to drive to Rock Hill or Tega Cay.

I did see that the steel structure a bit south and across the road from Lowe's has a sale pending on it. Not sure what it was going to be in the first place.

There was supposed to be something going in right before Sun City entrance (on the same side of the road, north side of the entrance), but that has also fallen through. We really, really need some nice restaurants around, though!

Well rothbear I'll tell you this, they may be finishing the land part up and delaying the rest of the work. HOWEVER, those guys work non-stop 7 days a week on the land excavation. I can very faintly hear the beep of their vehicles backing up on the site from my backyard and I've heard it at 7AM on a Saturday morning, on a Sunday morning, and even after dark. Insanity. Only time I don't hear it is when it's raining hard.

(Fortunately the beep can only be heard when you're really quiet and listening for it. I would hate to be any closer.)

Does anyone have any updates or info regarding this area? I'm surprised nothing has came into the area around Lowe's by now. With all the housing and Sun City alone, you would think more retail/restaurants would like some of the money that is being taken over the line into Charlotte.

Most be the economy, the plans for the big developing across from the Teeter at SS has been delayed until ?????? I guess I am not too surprised that nothing has filled in yet near the Lowes. Or it could be the cemetary next door that is keeping developers away, bad karma?

I know the economy is affecting everything, but people are still eating and buying necessities(in Charlotte, not here). I am just surprised that Lancaster County isn't doing more to draw businesses to the area, as they have to know everyone from the Indian Land area is taking their money to Charlotte. You can't eat Showmar's, Wendy's, Pizza and subs but so many times.

"They" have came Lancaster County, build it!!!

Before anyone can start building anything, the banks will need to let go of some money. I have spoken to people that would open something if they could get the loans they need.

Also, with restaurants closing in Ballantyne and other areas, do you think people are really ready to support the businesses the way they should be supported? I don't think so.

let's not rush things and perhaps we'll be lucky and get some great, unique places instead of the same old chain restaurants that are accessible everywhere else you go in the country. We don't need more of the same stuff everyone else has.

^+1. I have an "in" with several comercial brokers and the economy has slowed alot of the retail/restaurants in the area. Aldi is a powerhouse for disount retailers currently and are going in front of McGee next to Youngs.(I think that's were they told me)Several retailers are ready to expand they are just waiting for the centers to be built. That will not happen until the banks start lending to the developers. There will be alot coming to Indian Land after this all starts moving again.

I just got the news from my contact that WalMart has named the contractor for the new store, so hopefully they will be starting on it soon. Maybe they bumped it back up again. I think that store will be a huge success because of all the building going on 521 and the side roads.

Lancaster definitely has the 'if you build it they will come' mentality. Just look at all the money being spent on business parks—but where are all these manufacturers we're building for speculatively?

I live just south of town & we reeeally need another restaurant on this side of town (most of Lancaster's restaurants are crammed up on the bypass). Everybody that lives on this side of town says 'we need another restaurant'.... but what's being built across from the neighborhood Auto Zone? Another auto parts store. Like we need that!!??
