3. North Tahoe Watersports

City: Tahoe City, CA
Category: Tours & Attractions
Telephone: (530) 546-9253 (Kings Beach)
Address: 700 North Lake Boulevard

Description: If you’re not afraid of heights, you can enjoy a spectacular view of Lake Tahoe literally below your feet as you parasail high above the water. Older kids love this adventure, since it’s not something they can do every day. The height and length of the flight range from 450 feet of line for an 8-minute jaunt to 1,500 feet for a 15-minute thrill. Because takeoffs and landings are done on a launch pad on the back of a boat, you don’t even have to worry about getting dunked in the frigid waters of the lake. North Tahoe Watersports can also outfit the family in other water-sports equipment. Call for rates.

4. Tahoe Sailing Charters

City: Tahoe City, CA
Category: Tours & Attractions
Telephone: (530) 583-6200

Description: If you ever wanted to try sailing, this is the place. This company rents sailboats and offers a variety of sailing cruises on the lake. They even give sailing lessons. This is a cool way to relax on Lake Tahoe on a hot day. (See the Recreation chapter for more boat-rental information.)

6. Fanny Bridge

City: Tahoe City, CA
Category: Tours & Attractions

Description: This bridge spans the Truckee River as it flows out of Lake Tahoe. The Truckee is the only river that leaves the lake, and this bridge overlooks the charming dam that controls the water. When you lean over the rail, you can see huge trout swimming between the dam and the bridge. It’s called Fanny Bridge because so many people lean over it to watch the trout that passersby can only see their rear ends. Drive to the “Y” (the intersection of CA 89 and CA 28) in Tahoe City and look for the fannies—you can’t miss them or the bridge. (See the Attractions chapter for more information.)
