Description: This group of 40 a capella singers presents music from the Renaissance and 20th and 21st centuries, including works by Colorado’s finest composers, and performs in churches in Boulder and Denver. Founded in 1985, Ars Nova was one of the first choirs from Colorado funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and the only one to receive funding for three consecutive years. In 1998, the choir performed its first international tour, and it was later invited to perform at the statewide memorial service for the victims of the Columbine High School shootings, also attended by Vice President Al Gore. Ars Nova presents annual Christmas concerts in Boulder and Denver at area churches. The ensemble has performed the complete Responsoria by Renaissance composer Carlo Gesualdo, Gyorgy Ligeti’s Lux Aeterna, Charles Ives’s cantata The Celestial Country, and many experimental and avant-garde choral works. The Ars Nova Singers have been heard in radio broadcasts throughout the United States, Canada, South America, and Europe. The group has released several CDs. Ticket prices vary.
