Description: Founded in 1978 by Lara Branen, then a graduate student at CU-Boulder, this two-week August workshop includes public performances. This now-independent group returns to Boulder each year, where CU-Boulder’s Theatre and Dance Department lends its facilities. The workshop is open to the public, offering classes in jazz dance, hip hop, jazz funk, and modern dance, as well as ballet barre, a mat class based on the principles of Joseph Pilates, and special classes emphasizing partnering and turns for students age 16 and older.Following the summer workshop, there are performances by students, faculty, and the company in residence, Interweave Dance Theatre of Boulder, which is composed of some 30 dancers. Thirty to 40 percent of the workshop participants come from other states and countries, including Mexico, Italy, and elsewhere. Participants can receive up to two college credits at CU, and housing is available. Sign up early—the program fills very quickly.
