Description: Besides the library’s permanent art collection in both wings, there are ongoing exhibitions by contemporary regional artists in various media in an area called The Exhibit Space (entrance on Canyon Boulevard). With a ceiling height of 11 feet, 10 inches, and 160 linear feet of exhibition walls, it’s one of the largest display spaces in Boulder. Most artists represented are well-known Colorado painters and sculptors, though some national traveling exhibits are also displayed. Another worthwhile stop is at the display cases on the bridge, where all types of interesting exhibits are shown monthly. The Boulder Public Library Meadows Branch, 4800 Baseline Road (303-441-4390), also has a display space, featuring such items as raku pottery and Hawaiian leis and ceremonial capes made of feathers. If you’re interested in historic photographs, check out the Carnegie Library, 1125 Pine Street (303-441-3110), which has digitized about 7,000 of its best photographs so people can view them on a computer screen without touching and possibly damaging them. Call each branch for specific hours.
