Description: Breckenridge, the ski area, is huge and wide-ranging. Peak 8 is the original ski area, with a complex network of interlaced trails for all ability levels. It also offers access to high, above-the-treeline bowls and chutes as well as Peak 7, a steep mountain that is patrolled but not groomed and has no lift service—extreme terrain by anyone’s standards. Peak 9 offers the greatest concentration of beginner and novice terrain and access to Peak 10, fabled for moguls, steeps, and open glades. You can ski from mountain to mountain and back again, crisscrossing Breck’s 1,600-acre playground via different routes each time. There are excellent children’s facilities at both the Peak 8 and Peak 9 bases. Breckenridge has long welcomed snowboarders with a half-pipe, terrain features, and just plain good riding.Breckenridge has 135 trails on 2,031 acres with 20 lifts. In recent years, at-the-window tickets were about $80 for adults (one-day passes), with discount tickets available at King Soopers and Safeway. Children’s lift tickets (ages 5 to 12) are about $40. Discounted tickets are also available online.
