Description: Keystone is a self-contained resort with skiing on three contiguous mountains: Keystone Mountain, primarily for novice and intermediate skiers; North Peak, with its excellent mogul runs; and The Outback and The Outback Bowl, with powder-holding glades and steeps. Thanks to a huge and efficient snow-making system, Keystone is traditionally the first Colorado ski area to open for the season. Mid-October openings are not uncommon, and Halloween skiing is a tradition. In the 2000–2001 season, Keystone also welcomed snowboarders to a sensational snowboarding park in Packsaddle Bowl. It’s the only Summit County area (and one of the few in Colorado) to offer night skiing and snowboarding, nightly until 9 p.m. during most of the season.Keystone has 91 trails and 21 lifts and offers great deals on night skiing. A single-day ticket is about $92. Children ages 5 to 12 ski for about $49 per day. A $10 discount is offered to seniors ages 65 and above. On the Front Range tickets are available at King Soopers and Safeway. Keystone’s child-care center, which remains open in the evening during night skiing, takes babies as young as 2 months old, and parents may use complimentary pagers to stay in touch with the center. Skiing lessons are offered to kids age 3 and older; snowboarding instruction begins at age 8.
