Description: The city’s oldest recreation facility has undergone a major remodel and is now a state-of-the-art facility. Its family swim on Sunday afternoon is inexpensive and often a lifesaver for parents or children who find themselves winter-weary and/or housebound. This center is open Monday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Friday from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. The North Recreation Center started a program in the fall of 1997 for kids ages 7 through 12. Called “Fridays with BPR,” it allows kids to participate in a variety of activities from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday nights, after parents have registered their children and paid the $15 fee. The center promises a safe, secure environment with a police officer on the premises. The popular program offers swimming, laser-tag games, blackout wallyball, alien art, dancing, swimming and diving contests, and other activities.
