Description: ArtisGras’s beginning was humble. In a small country club in 1986 there were 150 artists who exhibited and 2,500 people who attended. Since then, this free, mid-Feb festival has grown in both size and stature. ArtiGras is now ranked as one of the top 20 events by the Southeastern Tourism Society, and as one of the top 50 festivals in the country by Sunshine Artist magazine. There are now over 300 artists at this juried show. At the Artist Demonstration Stage, you can learn how the artists create their art. At the Beer Garden, you can cool off with a brew. A pick-up area means you don’t have to cart your purchase around; you can bring your car to the volunteers, and they’ll load your art into it. The Homegrown Art area allows you to see the work of—and meet—up-and-coming local artists. An ArtiKids area allows the younger set to create their own art out of recycled materials, and there’s a Youth Art Competition Gallery and a Tiny Treasures Children’s Art Boutique. There’s music, too, with bands playing jazz, blues, Caribbean, flamenco, Cajun, and pop. Also a fashion show, and plenty of food.
