Description: Sail Harbor is on Turner Creek, right around the corner from the Wilmington River and about 7 miles from Wassaw Sound. This marina, whose office is closed Sun and Mon, has 100 wet slips, 5 of them for transients; a ship’s store offering a variety of sailing merchandise; and a laundry, showers, and restrooms. Sail Harbor was the 1996 Olympic yachting marina, meaning it served as a shore base for officials coordinating the sailing events. The actual sailing was done from a floating marina in Wassaw Sound that was dismantled after the Olympics.

Description: Local youngsters get their kicks on eight lighted fields at this 50-acre complex on Sallie Mood Drive near Eisenhower Drive. There are three fields that are 64 by 110 yards, three that are 60 by 105 yards, and two that are 75 by 115 yards. On occasion, the larger fields are divided into smaller fields to accommodate matches being played by the youngest participants.

Description: Winter is the only time you won’t find softballs flying at the city’s Allen E. Paulson Complex, one of the finest facilities of its kind in the Southeast. Other times, the place is jumping with slow-pitch activity. About 90 teams compete in Savannah’s open, church, and coed leagues during the spring and summer season, which ends around Labor Day. In September the fall leagues crank up, and about 60 teams hit the five lighted, 300-foot fields; play ends around Thanksgiving. Fees for teams playing in spring leagues are $490; teams that play in the fall leagues pay fees of $390.

Description: Tucked into a wooded area on Skidaway Road, this complex has 16 lighted hard courts open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mon through Thurs and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fri, Sat, and Sun, however, call for hours as they vary with the seasons. A pro shop sells tennis merchandise and beverages. Fees start at $5 per hour.

Description: Daffin’s six clay courts and three hard courts sit near the park’s lake, so you can occasionally catch a breeze off the water. You can play for free on the lighted hard courts (available from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.); there’s a fee of $5 an hour for using the soft courts, which don’t have lights and are open from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. seven days a week. (Longer hours are available during the summer. Call for times.)

Description: The Savannah Area Tennis Association organizes and oversees the operation of the majority of United States Tennis Association leagues here. The board of directors of SATA meets at 6 p.m. on the third Monday of each month at the Exchange restaurant on Waters Avenue, and the meetings are open to the public. The association has about 1,500 active members. To join, contact the pros at public or private tennis facilities in the area. You’ll pay a $40 USTA membership fee and a league fee of $11. Description: This facility is adjacent to Memorial Stadium in the Southside and is part of Chatham County’s recreational setup. The 15,000-square-foot center is geared toward Olympic-style weightlifting and strength training for local sports teams, but it’s open to the public from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mon through Fri and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sat. At the center, you can lift free weights or train on weight machines. Coaches are on hand to answer questions, and there are separate showers and saunas for men and women. The facility opened in February 1995 and is home to Team Savannah, the largest Olympic-style weightlifting team of its kind in the United States. Monthly fees are $10 for individuals and $20 for families, with daily visits pegged at $5.
