Description: Yosaku is the most recent addition to Portland’s sushi scene. Here you’ll find 37 different kinds of fish served at the sushi bar, some of it seasonal. The owner goes out of his way to get fish from Japan, such as cherry blossom trout, so named because they migrate upriver at the same time the cherry blossoms are blooming. Diners can sit with their shoes off at traditional tatami tables in the sushi bar area or choose a regular table in a separate dining room decorated with Japanese art. Outside, off the patio, is a Japanese garden with a waterfall. The menu includes such customer favorites as a spicy scallop roll and a hokkai-yaki appetizer. Customers who are shy about sushi are steered toward the teppan-style dishes—grilled tuna, yellowtail, salmon, shrimp, scallops, chicken, and beef. There’s also soba and udon noodle dishes, and lots of tempura vegetables paired with shrimp, chicken, and seafood. Yosaku accepts reservations and is open seven days a week. Lunch is served Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. The restaurant is open for dinner Monday through Thursday from 5 to 9:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday to 10:30 p.m., and Sunday to 9 p.m.
