Description: Concordia University (not to be confused with Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota) provides higher education in a Christian environment. The origins of Concordia date from 1893, when the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod created a high school to prepare students for its ministry. The school became coeducational in 1950 and began granting bachelor’s degrees in elementary education in 1962 for the first time as a college.Today educational opportunities are available in numerous fields. Liberal arts, business, and health care are popular areas of study, including dozens of undergraduate degree programs and M.A. programs. The college continues to offer many specialized career majors in the ministry, such as directors of church, parish music, Christian outreach and Christian education, as well as preseminary studies. Concordia’s School of Continuing Study offers many classes in the evenings, on weekends, and online.
