Description: Northwestern College is a nondenominational, conservative, private Christian college. The college has nearly 3,000 students studying nearly 50 different majors, and the college serves many nontraditional students with its adult degree completion program, Focus, and the Center for Distance Learning. Northwestern College began as the Northwestern Bible and Missionary School in Minneapolis in 1902. Over time educational and vocational opportunities have been greatly expanded, with the creation of the Northwest Theological Seminary in 1935 and the College of Liberal Arts founded in 1944. Then the college acquired a former Roman Catholic seminary in 1970; the large, wooded, gated campus was renovated and reopened as Northwestern College in 1972. Christian doctrine is central to the educational mission at Northwestern College. Unlike with many of the Twin Cities commuter campuses, most students live on campus. Northwestern College offers a distinctly conservative Christian education option.
