Description: More informally known as the Mauger (pronounced “major”) Bed & Breakfast Inn, this 1897 Queen Anne–style house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.It’s located on a quiet street within walking distance of the Downtown plaza and about a mile from Old Town. There are eight tastefully appointed guest rooms, each with an individual stamp. Some are dramatically contemporary and streamlined, others more classically styled with antiques. All have private bathrooms, phones, Internet access, cable TV, and a minifridge. Two rooms have either a verandah or a patio, and guests may also sit on the front porch, which overlooks the pretty garden. The comfortable lounge area features period antiques, and there’s a bright breakfast room with breezy white cotton drapes. Two 1,000-square-foot two-bedroom townhouses are also available in a separate building. A typical full buffet-style breakfast might feature fruit, yogurt, granola, cereals, and a hot sweet or savory dish such as quiche or green chile, with breakfast meats and freshbaked breads. Innkeepers Tammy and Mike Ross also offer a daily wine and cheese reception, at which it’s not unknown for guests to get on so well they go out for dinner afterward and stay in touch beyond their visit. However, it’s also fine to grab a glass of wine and cozy up in your room. Tea and sweets are always available, and rooms have their own coffeepots. This conveniently located B&B is popular with business guests as well as leisure visitors. A computer is available for e-mail and to print out boarding passes, and guests receive a discount at a local fitness center with a pool. Children are welcome, and families with younger tots are often made comfortable in one of the townhouses. Dogs are accepted by arrangement at a charge of $20 per stay. A ground-floor queen room has a doggy door to the yard. This property is not wheelchair accessible.
