Description: Explore the history of whaling and view a former 19th-century American whaleboat containing its original gear. Also on display is an impressive scrimshaw collection, as well as artwork, ship models, and artifacts from the whaling industry. The museum is open year-round, but hours vary by season.

Description: Get the inside scoop on Long Island’s history in just 28 minutes at the Dolan DNA Learning Center. Here you can experience a multimedia, surround-sound presentation that offers a look at Long Island from the Ice Age to the late 20th century. Another presentation hosted here on an ongoing basis is DNA: The Secret of Life, a 32-minute movie that combines animation and special effects to educate viewers about how DNA was discovered, and how its discovery has changed medicine as well as our understanding of biology and genetics.These presentations are just two of the many exhibits, programs, and hands-on activities offered at this unique science center, which was designed mainly to teach visitors about molecular genetics research and the work being done at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. In addition to the exhibits, the learning center hosts ongoing hands-on workshops for people of all ages. Many of the rotating exhibits displayed at the Donal DNA Learning Center were created in conjunction with, or supplied by, the Smithsonian Institute.The Dolan DNA Learning Center is open to the public Mon through Fri from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. With a few exceptions throughout the year, it is closed on Sat and Sun. A visit to this center is more suitable for teens and adults, rather than children.
