When the hospital first opened its doors in 1929, it housed just 54 beds. Mather Memorial Hospital employs more than 600 doctors, 440 nurses, and a non-medical staff of more than 1,180 people. In terms of baked goods, everything is created on the premises, including the more than 25 varieties of breads. This is the place to come for truly delicious baked goods and mouthwatering desserts, including cookies, cakes, and pastries. There are literally dozens of freshly baked goods to choose from each and every day. La Bonne Boulangerie is also a gourmet coffee shop, so you get a cup of coffee, hot cocoa, or tea to go with your Danish, apple strudel, cupcake, or muffin. The bakery also creates amazingly detailed, fully customized cakes, edible party favors, and party platters for all types of special occasions. The bakery has been in existence for more than 35 years and has developed a reputation for being one of the most high-quality, delicious sources for baked goods, cakes, and breads anywhere on Long Island. Description: Featuring massive windows on two sides that overlook the Long Island Sound and the Port Jefferson Ferry dock, Wave Restaurant is located in the famous Danfords Hotel, and serves lunch and dinner. Designed to appeal to just about everyone, the American-influenced menu offers a sampling of seafood, steaks, chicken, soups, and salads. Fresh seafood favorites, such as salmon, sea bass, and tuna, along with more unique options, like hamachi and black cod char siu and sushi, are typically on the menu. A variety of seasonal specials are offered throughout the year. The dining room is spacious and tastefully decorated with a nautical theme. Description: For more than 40 years this small but nicely designed theater has brought highly professional Broadway productions, including plays and musicals, directly to residents and tourists in Port Jefferson. Throughout the year the theater presents several different Broadway shows, such as The Wedding Singer, Little Shop of Horrors, The Producers, The Graduate, Smokey Joe’s Cafe, and Jewtopica, all of which were part of the 2009 lineup.In the evening, Theatre Three presents Broadway musicals and shows, but during the day it supports a very active children’s theater program and presents a wide range of kid-friendly performances and special events. In 2009, for example, some of the kid-oriented shows included Barnaby Saves Christmas, Starship Imagination: Sheep in Space, The Three Little Kittens, The Golden Goose, The Adventures of Peter Rabbit, and Little Red Riding Hood.
