Description: The attractive Gasthaus, in an old refurbished 1890s hotel adjacent to the Widmer brewery, serves a complete menu, ranging from beer and appetizers to full dinners. There’s plenty of exposed brick and wood lending character to this pub, which seats around 120. Our favorite Widmer Brothers beers include their seasonal beers, but we also thirst for their IPAs—and the special Brothers’ Reserve, fleeting runs of unique, small-batch beer that are true labors of love. Widmer Brothers Brewing Company is a top-selling craft brewer in the region and produces seven original European- and Pacific Northwest–style beers. Their flagship ale is America’s original Hefeweizen, a cloudy, golden-hued wheat beer that’s as easy to drink as it is to look at. Hefeweizen is bottled and kegged unfiltered and directly from the lagering tank, adding to its robust taste and unique appearance. At the Gasthaus, you’ll find a few outside picnic tables, which fill up fast in the summertime. This place is popular with everyone from the Wall Street set to the shipyard workers on nearby Swan Island.
