Description: Looming as the centerpiece of the city’s cultural district, the Portland Center for the Performing Arts hosts more than 900 events, entertaining more than one million ticketholders. The center comprises a number buildings and theaters within buildings, with the main box office at 1111 Southwest Broadway. The Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, just to the north, is the grande dame of the performance halls. A building with a grand past, it’s currently the home of the Oregon Symphony and host to several traveling theater productions, lectures, and other entertainment. Just south of the Schnitzer is a complex with two theaters: the Newmark Theatre and the Dolores Winningstad Theatre. The Dolores Winningstad Theatre is an Elizabethan or “black-box” theater with 292 seats; the Newmark Theatre is a 916-seat room designed to emulate the Edwardian-style theaters of Europe. Of note, Keller Auditorium on Southwest 3rd Avenue between Market and Clay Streets, is a spacious theater with a capacity of 3,000 seats—and it’s the venue for traveling Broadway shows.
