Description: Carroll Valley Resort offers two golf courses, this one located at the site of the resort and the Mountain View Golf Course, located 3 miles away on Bullfrog Road (see listing later in this chapter). Carroll Valley Resort sits at the foothills of the Catoctin Mountains, and skiing is available during the winter. There are two restaurants at the resort, which is often used for conferences, meetings, and wedding receptions; its ballroom can accommodate 350 people. (For complete information on all that’s offered at Carroll Valley Resort, see the Hotels, Motels, and Resorts chapter.) The Carroll Valley Golf Resort is located about 10 miles west of Gettysburg off Route 116 (Middle Street). The hotel at Carroll Valley overlooks the course, and golf packages combining golfing, accommodations, and meals are available, as well as a clubhouse with a pro shop, a driving range, and a putting green. Golfers are not allowed to wear metal-spike shoes, and proper golf attire is required, specifically a collared shirt and no jeans or cutoffs. You’ll find a kid-friendly golfing environment at Carroll Valley Resort. Family golf packages and new Kids on Course programs are offered, and the course has kid-friendly tees. This 18-hole, 6,345-yard, and par 71 championship course designed by Ault & Clark has received a four-and-a-half-star rating by Golf Digest and has been named one of the 100 Must-Play Courses of the Middle Atlantic by GolfStyles Magazine. The course winds through the valley floor, and hills surround you as you golf. A mountain stream also cuts through the layout, making water a major factor on seven holes. One of the more challenging holes is No. 9, a 477-yard dogleg right par 4 that has water running along the right side for about 300 yards, creating a split fairway. Cost is $45 to walk and $59 to ride the Carroll Valley course, and after 1:00 p.m. the price drops to $39 to walk and $49 to ride. Carts are mandatory before 2:00 p.m. on weekends and holidays. Tee times are required, and they may be scheduled up to one month in advance.
