Description: The Mountain View Golf Course is part of the Carroll Valley Resort, which offers this course and a sister course located at the main resort area. Golf packages that include golfing and accommodations and meals at the main lodge are available. (See the Hotels, Motels, and Resorts chapter for more on the Carroll Valley Resort; for more on the Carroll Valley Golf Resort, see the previous listing in this chapter.) Both of the resort courses are dedicated to creating a kid-friendly golfing environment by offering kid-friendly tees, family golf packages, and Kids on Course programs. Golfers are not allowed to wear metal-spike shoes on either course, and proper golf attire is required, specifically a collared shirt and no jeans or cutoffs. The Mountain View Golf Course sits about 3 miles from the main resort area, and it’s considered by many to be the easier of the two courses. Golfers here enjoy a natural grass driving range and a bit of history. The pro shop is within a pre–Civil War clubhouse that was built around 1800, and the brick farmhouse was used by the Confederates during their retreat from Gettysburg in July 1863. Slightly shorter than its sister course at 6,092 yards, this is also an 18-hole, par 71 championship course designed by Ault & Clark that’s received a four-and-a-half-star rating by Golf Digest. Mountain View gets its name from the mountains that you can admire as you golf, and one of the best views of the mountains and the valley can be had on the No. 15 hole, a 415-yard downhill par 4. It costs nonresidents $35 to walk and $49 to ride the course, while residents pay $34 to walk and $44 to ride. Tee times are not required, but they are preferred one to two days in advance, and seniors (age 50 and older) get a reduced rate on riding the course on weekdays.
