Description: The Gettysburg Hotel, then known as Scott’s Tavern, was established in 1797. The hotel basks in this history, as evidenced by the name of its restaurants, Centuries on the Square and McClellan’s Tavern. (William McClellan, a local sheriff, bought the tavern in 1809.) Open for breakfast and dinner, Centuries on the Square offers you fine dining as you enjoy its colonial decor. For dinner you’ll find elegant beef, chicken, and seafood dishes. Prime rib of beef is available on Friday and Saturday evenings; the salmon is filleted in-house to ensure its fresh quality. A children’s menu is available, and your server will be attired in period dress. McClellan’s Tavern is open for lunch and lighter fare during the evening. As you enter the pub, you’re sure to notice the gleaming mahogany bar before you. This turn-of-the-twentieth-century Van Tromp bar was imported from Brick Lane in England, and it’s a beauty. The bar stools are mahogany and soft, soft leather that you can’t help but caress. Cozy tables sit around the bar area, and there’s a separate dining area to the right that features a large fireplace. Gourmet sandwiches dominate the menu, which also has a good selection of appetizers.
