Description: Green Acres is a not-for-profit skilled nursing facility with 154 beds that sits amid a rural setting of peach and apple orchards less than a mile north of Lincoln Square. The center is state licensed and Medicare and Medicaid approved, and it accepts payment for its services from Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance, and private pay. Green Acres has been providing care to area residents since it was established in 1891 as an alms house. Today state-of-the-art medical treatment is offered here, including dementia treatment and physical, speech, and occupational therapy. Residents have their choice of a wide range of activities; some activities are held at the center and some involve the community. Popular programs include interacting with pet-therapy animals, baking, caroling, gardening, and trick-or-treating. The center also coordinates with hospice workers when clients need those services, respite care is available, and the Share and Care Adult Day Care (717-334-5970) is on the premises. The goal of the Share and Care Adult Day Care is to improve or maintain an impaired adult’s physical and mental functioning so he or she can remain living within the community. The day care is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and adults may attend for either a half or a full day. Full-day participants receive lunch and two snacks, while those who attend for half a day receive one snack. Activities include music, bingo, painting, exercising, cooking, movies, and more. For an additional fee clients may have personal bathing assistance and podiatry services, and the services of the beauty/barber shop at Green Acres are available to them. Physical, occupational, and speech therapy, all of which must be ordered by the client’s doctor, are offered here, and these services may be billed to the client’s insurance. Applicants must have their doctor complete a patient history and physical, a tuberculosis test must be taken, and admission interviews are conducted before the adult is admitted to the program. The cost of the day care is $50 for a full day and $25 for a half day.
