Description: Oliver’s rustic and weathered appearance is a welcoming landmark to everyone who knows and loves Murrells Inlet. Serving fresh, local seafood since 1910 (parts of the house were built in 1860), it’s the oldest restaurant in the Myrtle Beach area, and the panoramic view (reason enough for a visit) is breathtaking.Dinner at Oliver’s feels a lot like visiting the home of a much loved family member who happens to be an extraordinary cook. In Southern style, the decor is understated and unpretentious. Don Edwards, Oliver’s owner, will likely greet you at the door. Best of all, he’s passed on his penchant for fine, friendly service to his staff, so you can expect to feel pampered throughout the evening. Appetizers include homemade chowders, delicately seasoned crab cakes, crisp-fried calamari, oysters on the half shell, and stuffed mushrooms. Fresh seafood takes center stage and can be served grilled, broiled, fried, or blackened. Steaming oyster and clam pots (in season) and the signature Flounder Roosevelt are ever-popular choices, too. New York strip steaks, chicken Marsala, and at least three other specials are offered nightly. There’s also a “sunset special” menu served from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. featuring fried shrimp or fish, hamburger steak or grilled chicken, salad, vegetable, and nonalcoholic beverage for $9.99.Oliver’s is open seven days a week for dinner from 4:30 p.m. until the folks stop coming. It is also open for lunch Tues through Sat 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
