Description: New York Prime is one of the area’s finest restaurants. This was a dream child of founders Ed Cribb and Jerry Greenbaum, who first envisioned the restaurant when they returned from a trip to New York, where they ate at Peter Luger Steak House, the Palm Restaurant, Sparks Steak House, and Smith & Wollensky. Reminiscing, they wondered if a real New York–style steak house would make it on the Grand Strand. In researching the concept, they traveled around to see what America’s best steak houses have in common and discovered that people will pay more for quality, but the food must be truly exemplary. Concept confirmed, they went to Nebraska, where they established a unique supply chain, purchasing only from two slaughterhouses that ship according to incredibly stringent specifications. Upon receipt, the meat is aged for 28 to 35 days, then trimmed of excess fat.The cooking completes the technique. No spices and no tenderizers disguise inferior meat. Cuts are extra thick, and ceramic broilers cook at 1,700 degrees. The same attention to detail in supply and preparation goes into every morsel of food at New York Prime. Expect the freshest fish, giant lobsters shipped direct and kept live (never frozen), fresh Idaho potatoes, sweet Vidalia onions, and tomatoes straight from sunny California. An extensive wine cellar will complement your dining experience. The prices are steep, but the experience is extraordinary, and the quality entirely justifies the prices. Open for dinner nightly.
