Description: If you’re of Scandinavian descent, you’ve probably been teased about lutefisk, the odoriferous Limburger of fish dishes. Well, here’s a place where you can bask unabashedly in your ethnic heritage. For many decades this red-and-white chalet 9 miles south of Rapid City has stocked quintessential Northern European goods, from Norwegian sweaters (to die for) to lefse mix. Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Holland, and Germany are represented here in such items as brightly painted Dalecarlian horses, needlepoint kits, delicate pewter jewelry, pretty table linens, glassware, china, funny troll dolls, kitchen utensils, food items, clogs, toys, glass Christmas ornaments, and blue delftware. The shop is open daily from May through Oct; in Nov and Dec, when co-owner Jean Watkins (she’s of Swedish parentage) serves hot cider and glogg and homemade lefse, it’s open Fri through Sun and by appointment. It’s closed from the weekend before Christmas until May 1.
