Description: Zanies presents nationally known comedians as well as up-and-coming talent. Past performers include Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld, and Jeff Foxworthy. Photographs of funny people who have appeared at the club line the walls at the entrance. The place is packed when the bigger names appear, so you’ll want to get your tickets early and show up early to get a good seat. Tickets usually range from $20 to $40, although special shows cost more. Zanies is open Wed through Sun. Shows begin at 7 or 8 p.m. Second, and sometimes third, shows are presented Fri and Sat. Zanies serves snacks and light meals and has a full bar. You must be 18 or older to enter.

Description: A great place to linger over a latte, Fido, as this coffeehouse is known, opened in October 1996 in the building previously occupied by Jones Pet Store. Located in Hillsboro Village, right next to Vanderbilt University, Fido draws a big college crowd as well as a lot of Green Hills residents, creative artist types, and 40-and-older coffee lovers. Fido’s spacious, quiet, and dimly lit room makes for a relaxing environment where everyone seems to feel comfortable. There’s plenty of freshly roasted coffee, plus tea, chilled drinks, fresh pastries, and a breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu and brunch on Sat and Sun. Fido is open daily until 11 p.m.

Description: After oohing and ahhing over IMAX films in Chattanooga, St. Louis, and Huntsville, Alabama, we’re happy that Nashville now has its own IMAX theater. You can get completely immersed in these realistic movies, especially the 3-D variety. The screen is 7 stories tall and 95 feet wide. The theater screens 2 different movies on an alternating schedule several times per day. Ticket pricing varies depending upon feature. This theater is adjacent to a Regal 20-screen cinema.

Description: Vanderbilt University’s Sarratt Cinema may offer the best movie value in town. It shows mostly a selection of classics, recent hits, and documentaries for $5, or $4 for Vandy students. The theater is in the Sarratt Student Center, a couple of blocks off West End Avenue. The operating hours vary, so call or visit the website for the most up-to-date schedule. The Sarratt is operated during the school year only; closed summer months.

Description: Located at the Opry Plaza area surrounding the Grand Ole Opry House, this 12,000-square-foot museum tells the story of the Grand Ole Opry, the world’s longest-running radio show. There are exhibits on numerous Opry stars, including Roy Acuff, Garth Brooks, Patsy Cline, Little Jimmy Dickens, George Jones, Marty Robbins, and Tex Ritter. Computer interactive kiosks allow you to learn more about Opry legends and view historical clips. A 10-by-10-foot video wall features highlights from TV’s Grand Ole Opry Live. The museum is open daily but closes occasionally without notice, so it’s a good idea to call before visiting. .

Description: In business since 1879, Hatch Show Print is one of the oldest letterpress poster print shops in America. The shop is best known for its posters of early Grand Ole Opry stars. Today Hatch is owned and operated by the Country Music Foundation, which operates the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum. The shop still produces its trademark posters and other designs. Its 14-by-22-inch posters advertising local rock bands and would-be country stars can be seen in window displays around town. Hatch sells samples of its posters in the shop. You can drop by Mon through Sat.

Description: Visitors to the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum can purchase a pass for $12.99 ($10.99 for children ages 6 to 17) that allows them access to RCA Studio B on Music Row. (A ticket to the Hall of Fame is required.) The legendary facility is Nashville’s oldest surviving recording studio. More than 1,000 top 10 hits, including tunes by Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and the Everly Brothers, were recorded at the studio from 1957 to 1977. Tours are offered daily and depart from the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum.

Description: The Music City Walk of Fame on Nashville’s Music Mile is a landmark tribute to those from all genres of music who have made significant contributions to preserving the musical heritage of Nashville and have contributed to the world through song or other industry collaboration. Inductees are announced throughout the year and honored at a special ceremony with a permanent platinum-and-granite, star-and-guitar sidewalk marker. Inductions are held twice a year: in April during GMA week and in November to coincide with the CMA Awards. Almost 50 stars have already been honored on the sidewalks of Hall of Fame Park between the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum and the Hilton Nashville Downtown.
