Description: This restaurant, located on the north side of San Antonio about 12 minutes from downtown, holds the distinction of being the oldest originally owned Mexican restaurant in San Antonio. Since 1949 the Quinones family has owned and operated this popular eatery.The restaurant offers a weekday lunch special that includes an enchilada, a taco, rice, beans, and iced tea. Although the enchiladas and tacos are local favorites, the restaurant is also known for its caldo (chicken soup) as well as its menudo (tripe soup) and tortilla soup. Other options include chile rellenos, chicken molé, chalupas, tamales, and more. You can dine indoors or outside in the courtyard. If you want to take a taste of San Antonio home with you, purchase a jar of Jacala’s salsas or its jalapeño jelly (ask the staff how to use the jelly). The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner, and meals are also available to go.
