61. Republic Of Texas

City: San Antonio, TX
Category: Restaurants
Telephone: (210) 226-6256
Address: 526 River Walk

Description: Search for the table umbrellas that look like the Lone Star flag, and you’ll have found the Republic of Texas. This restaurant serves up a little of everything, from fajitas to catfish to burgers, in a building that was once the office of River Walk architect Robert H. H. Hugman. The building still bears his name, and the title “Architect” still appears on the former river-level office. Hugman once wrote, “As soon as the river walkway was finished, I opened my office at water level. When I did this, people said, in essence, ‘I knew you were a dreamer, but now I know you are also a fool. You’ll be drowned like a rat in your own hole.’” Open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
