A center for gifted students works with students in grades three through five and six through eight, and Gifted Resource teachers are in the home schools. More than half of Goochland High’s seniors take dual-enrollment classes at nearby J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, and AP classes are offered as well. Some high school students take part in the Blue Ridge Virtual Governor’s School, which emphasizes math, science, and technology. Goochland Elementary has won the Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence two years in a row, and the school system as a whole and Byrd and Randolph elementary schools received the state Board of Education’s Excellence Award.
