Description: Almost surrounded by VCU’s Medical College of Virginia campus, this museum offers some choices: Tour the museum and tour Jefferson Davis’s White House, or just pick one. This three-story museum gathers the most comprehensive collection of artifacts related to the Confederate States of America, including extensive weaponry, uniform pieces, and wartime flags. Exhibits incorporate details and artifacts from soldiers, slaves, and freed blacks, famous generals, and the president of the Confederacy, Jefferson Davis. Imagine the work involved to move a 2,000-pound cannon. Shake your head at the Southerner’s boast that “We can lick ’em with cornstalks.” There’s plenty of colorful history in here. The museum is open seven days a week. Free parking is available in the MCVH Visitor Patient Parking deck on 12th Street. Just bring your ticket to the museum’s front desk for validation.
