Today I decided to be the one to buy bagels and coffee for the office. Simple enough, I ordered 2 dozen bagels and a Box-o-Joe from the Dunkin Donuts when I got off the highway. Normally I go to the DD near my work, it's much smaller but never any lines.
This Dunkin Donuts was kind of in the rougher area; the streets were broken up, a curb sticking out into the lane, etc.
Anyway, I drive up to place the order from my car since there's no one else in line, and I can barely hear the woman. She sounds like she has the microphone a foot from her head, but I can also hear other people talking from the speaker. No biggie. I say "I'm sorry, I can barely hear you, can you please speak up?"
Suddenly I'm greeted by an over-modulated and agitated voice: "HELL-OOOO?!! CAN I TAKE YOUR ORDERRRR SIR"
I take a moment, and say nicely "Hello, can I have a Box of coffee and 2 dozen assorted bagels, but nothing with onions, someone at the office is allergic to onions, please." I decided to be nice even though the woman appears not to be.
"Drive up." is all I'm told.
So I drive up. I'm waiting at the window to pay and I notice everyone's running around inside, almost as if they are playing tag. Whatever.
I get the box of coffee, and now I'm waiting on the bagels. They finally arrive and I put them on the passenger seat. I noticed there's a car behind me now, so I pull up ahead of the window to check the bags. Sure enough, 4 everything bagels which now have shaken off all over the others in their bags. I pull up into the first stall and go inside.
"Good morning, I had ordered these just now and asked for no onions, because someone at the office is allergic to them
"I'm not a manager sir, I can't do anything about it." interrupts the cashier before I can finish.
"Is there a manager here?" I ask.
"She's eating, you'll have to wait." I reply.
"I'll wait." I say and move to the side of the counter. Realizing that I'm going to actually wait, the clerk wanders into the back and calls for someone named Chantel. A small line is now forming at the counter of about 4 people.
So Chantel comes up from the back, and before I even get one word out I'm told "Sir, we don't take used bagels back here."
I reply "Hi, I ordered these just now
"Did you hear me, sir? Sir I can't take your used bagels back, you stuck with them now."
"But you guys gave me the wrong order, I asked for no onions." I reply.
"Look, unless you are going to order more, you have to leave." she says, now firmly agitated.
"I'd like to get your owner's name and number please, I'm not happy with the service." I say. I'm now starting to get frustrated because the line forming is getting restless and now listening to our issue. Someone in the line says "Fuckin cracker."
OK, whatever, I can handle it, so now Chantel goes in the back and returns about a minute later. "I can't give you that information."
"What do you mean? Of course you can, this is a Dunkin Donuts, it is a member of the Better Business Bureau, the information is public." I said.
"Sir, please leave."
Now, what had happened while I was waiting was that 2 local cops were at the back of the line, but I hadn't paid attention to the radio chatter or whatever because I was more flabbergasted about the poor service.
The next thing I know I get tapped on the shoulder by one of the police officers and his partner asks "Is everything ok here?"
Chantel speaks up: "No, this guy is causing problems and is trying to return bagels after they are used" - (hah, used)
"I just ordered these about 10 minutes ago and they gave me the wrong ord
"No, no, no, that's not what happened. Officers I need him to leave, he is trying to get money from us by returning used bagels. We see this all the time." she says, now completely looking at some paperwork and ignoring me.
"Sir we need you to return to your car and leave. The manager has asked you to leave."
"Fine, I can't believe this service is so bad here." I mutter. Apparently this is where I fucked up.
One of the cops points to the door and says "Leave, now, before things get bad."
Someone in line says "Fucking asshole."
Chantel says "take your old ass bagels back with you, crackhead" (crackhead?)
I get back in the car, wondering what the fuck just happened. After about a minute, I put the car in reverse, and go to leave. I glance back over at the window and now see the cops and Chantel laughing. One of them fist bumped the cashier. I drove to work.
I put the coffee and bagels on the break room counter, and make a sign that says, may contain onions, be careful.
One of the admins comes by my desk 20 minutes later and says "You know Jenny is allergic to onions, right?"
So I sighed. And decided to fire up Reddit and post my FU. Right now.
TL;DR - decided to do a nice thing and get bagels and coffee from Dunkin Donuts on the way into work. Stopped at a city DD instead of the apparent 'cracker-hood' DD I normally visit near my work. Brought an erroneously filled order to the attention of Chantel, the manager and was thrown out of the store for trying to 'return used bagels.'
Would you recommend Dunkin Donuts to others? No
