Fiction Among Friends hosts two writers' retreats each year, the Adirondack Mountain Writers' Retreat, held in summer in Thurman, and the St. George Island Writers' Retreat for Women, held on St. George Island, Florida in November. While the Florida retreat is planned for women fiction writers with a major project in the works (author in residence is Adrian Fogelin), topics for instruction at the Adirondack Mountain Writers' Retreat will vary. The August 22-24, 2008, retreat, for example, will be a three-day memoir workshop called "Living to Tell the Tale" with teacher/writer Irene Sherlock. Registrations at both retreats are limited to twelve, including both in-residence and commuter participants, to ensure lots of personal attention during consultations and peer critique sessions. Both of these events welcome novices, and those in attendance leave feeling inspired and with a much sharper focus on their respective projects. Email and phone questions are welcomed, and those interested in the retreats are urged to browse my web site, www.FictionAmongFriends.com. These events are organized by Persis Granger, author of Adirondack Gold, the ,b>Adirondack Gold Teacher's Guide, Shared Stories from Daughters of Alzheimer's,, and the soon-to-be-released Adirondack Gold II: A Summer of Strangers.
