Charlotte Preparatory School is a college-preparatory school in Southeast Charlotte with about 400 students from Pre-Kindergarten - 8th Grade. We are a non-profit, independent school that is committed to the mission of lifelong learning. Students from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th Grade come to Charlotte Preparatory School for outstanding private education that prepares them for future success.
What first began as a small Montessori school in 1971 has grown into what today stands out as a remarkable coeducational day school focused on growing vital leadership and learning skills. Our integrated approach to academics allows us to provide wonderful enrichment opportunities through fine arts, athletics, and after-school programs. At Charlotte Preparatory School, we believe the most formative learning occurs between ages 2 and 14.
Our intimate learning environment supports the student through these pivotal years. From the Early School that provides a preschool Montessori foundation to the Lower and Middle schools more traditional inquiry-based curriculum program, we equip children for a lifetime of leadership and learning. Our program starts in our Early School, where children as young as two-years-old begin their pre-school education with a Montessori-focused curriculum, then transition to 8th Grade with a more traditional curriculum starting in Kindergarten.
Charlotte Prep is a community of learners, where our students, teachers, and leadership are committed to both their own growth and that of others. We are student-centered; every program, policy, and our Pre-K - 8th Grade model are designed and tested to achieve our ultimate goal of providing an excellent, comprehensive education for the students entrusted to us.
Our school is balanced in its approach, seeking the classic ideal of “a sound mind and a sound spirit in a sound body.” Of course quality academics are our first priority, but excellence is also developed through the arts and physical education. Our program is carefully designed to stretch our students, but not overwhelm them. The Charlotte Prep curriculum is accelerated at all grades and in all areas, but our students are well prepared and well supported in their work; they thrive because of this combination.

Lower School
8:15 a.m. - 3:10 p.m.
Middle School
8:00 a.m. - 3:25 p.m.
