• Hello. My name is Aimee Phillips and I am a piano teacher and professional pianist in the Ocean View and Millville area. I teach children as well as adults and have been teaching in the area for 7 years. I also teach at B & B Music on Rt. 1 in Lewes. I also play professionally at weddings and parties. I play light jazz, pop and songs from the American Songbook. I team with singers and we often perform at nursing homes and assisted living facilities. I frequently substitute on Sundays at churches in the area. I love playing and performing and, to my students, I try to convey the idea that playing the piano is fun. I teach children traditional piano lessons: note reading, theory, ear training and composition. I like to encourage them to explore piano playing and how to be creative with it. For older children, from 11 or so on up, lessons are more flexible and I try to listen to what they're interested in. Along with traditional note reading and skills, I include more chord theory and playing chord songs, jazz, playing by ear, and improvisation. Older children are usually not interested in traditional piano lessons and often want to play pop tunes and favorite songs. I want them to have fun as well as learn a valuable skill that they can further explore anytime in their lives. I teach the chord style piano to most of my adult students, also. Few adults want to take the years required to learn to read the right and left hand, but in two or three years of pop piano, they can play their favorite tunes from their youth and later. Lesson times are flexible to accommodate their schedules and needs. I teach in my home and, depending upon circumstances, occasionally teach in the student's home.
