  • COUPEVILLE, WA - On November 8, 2007, Pioneer Log Siding was launched right here on Whidbey Island, in the charming community of Coupeville, north of Seattle, WA. Our real 1 ½ inch wood siding is hand-hewn to simulate the rustic, aged, square logs from the old frontier days. Because it is siding and not whole logs it is many times lighter and therefore, much easier to handle, which keeps labor and shipping costs down. It is energy efficient and, with proper care, will last a lifetime. It is virtually impossible to tell the difference once it is installed and chinked. Since no two pieces of Pioneer Log Siding are alike, and because each unique board is covered with cuts, checks and dings, your building simply gets better looking with age and will continue to look more historically authentic and beautiful as the years go by. We have all seen round-log homes, and while they have lots of charm, a building with our square-log siding is truly like taking a trip back to the Frontier Days of the Old West. It is a far less common look and a real treat to see! Because it is siding and much easier to handle, and since it is so adaptable, it can be used in many innovative ways - on new construction to give it that Old West look, or old construction to give it an attractive face lift. It's flexibility allows it to be installed over any flat surface, even block walls with the use of vertical wood strips! One might use the same-size boards with spacers between to give a more contemporary, clean look, or by using different widths of boards and random spacing, a more rustic, old-time look is achieved. Some of our customers combine the two looks for a truly striking appearance! At Pioneer Log Siding, we are actively marketing our product and service, not only locally, but nationwide. Plans are to extend that marketing to magazines and mailings. Word is out - interest is growing - and we are seeing new orders coming in from around the country! The attention we are receiving indicates that there is a desire out there for new ideas and new looks - to get away from the predictability of existing siding products. THAT NEW IDEA IS HERE...NOW! Richard Gunst, the owner of Pioneer Log Siding, crafted his idea while working within the entertainment media at NBC and Universal studios in Southern California. As a graphic artist of signs and sets for western projects, his siding idea was always lingering in the back of his mind. The time finally came when he and his wife, Chris, moved to Breckenridge, Colorado; they wanted to build their dream cabin. "I adapted what I had learned, created the siding and then improved upon the idea. The attention we received after the cabin was finished was astounding - and Pioneer Log Siding was born!" Richard and his wife now reside happily in Coupeville, WA and are looking to find a site on which to build a Pioneer Log Village attraction. "We are excited to see the growth in our business and to continue expanding on our idea."
