- Mission San Miguel was founded in 1797 by Father Presidente Fermin Francisco de Lasuen. It is the 16th of the 21 Alta California Missions, built to be a link between the San Luis Obispo and San Antonio Missions, each a day's journey away. The mission is named for Saint Michael the Archangel and is an active parish with mass held daily in the church. It is also a designated historical landmark with the museum and gift shop open daily. The hand painted frescos in the church are the only untouched originals left in California. The mission is located 10 miles north of Paso Robles, just off of the 101 Highway.
