Hattie Weber Museum

The Hattie Weber Museum is on 445 C Street in Davis, California. It is open Wednesday through Saturday 10am to 4pm. Admission is free, though they subsist on donations. The Yolo County Historical Society runs the museum for the City of Davis. The museum offers exhibits on the history and heritage of the city, as well as the surrounding area of Davis.

Hattie Weber, for which the place is named, was the first librarian of Davisville. She began work in 1906 as a volunteer operating the free library. It was located at the Buena Vista Hotel. In 1910, Weber was getting a salary from Davis when the branch library was opened. She managed to get 200 books in the collection by 1906 and over 23,144 books by 1953 when she retired. The building where the museum is was built in 1911. In 1969 the building was sold and a new one created on 14th street. In 1988 the library building was moved to its current location and turned into a museum.

The original library began in 1870 by Mrs. Marden and Mrs. Crawford; however, for most of the libraries life it was Hattie Weber who was in charge.
