Kenner Ranch Riding, Discovery and Development Center

Just six miles north of Julian, CA, the Kenner Horse Ranch offers horseback riding, horsemanship, and exploration of horse ranching. The ranch is near two major geological landmarks of the area North Peak and William Heise Park.

Ambrosia the Indian originally owned the land that was part of a 600-acre ranch in the 1800's. In the 1870's a rancher named David Talley bought it from Ambrosia and proceeded to domesticate the ranch. His daughter, Mary Talley, was a good friend of John Muir, the founder of the Sierra Club. Today the Kenner Horse Ranch displays the simple life of the 1800's that is often forgotten today.

Visitors can take part in a trail ride with the Kenner's horses and will cover 200 acres of back country on a ride that lasts about 1.5 hours. Visitors are encouraged to call for an advance reservation. The tours are led by guides along a safe route where riders will experience mountains, forests, meadows, and ponds.

The Kenner Horse Ranch resides 60 miles northeast of San Diego, CA, just outside the northern edge of the Cleveland National Forest. Tourist attractions nearby the museum include Eagle Mining Company, Volcan Mountains Wilderness Reserve, Lake Cuyamaca, and several city parks and campgrounds.
