Sutter Gold Mine

Sutter Gold Mine offers underground tours of the old mines in Sutter Creek, California. Tours are offered Friday through Monday only. The first tour begins at 10am, with the last tour at 4pm. Hardhats are provided for any guest wishing to tour the underground facility, and they must be worn. The tour is not recommended for children under four due to the need for hardhats and for safety concerns.

Sutter Gold Mine is a modern mine of hard rock. It is located on Highway 49 to the north of Sutter Creek Town and south of Amador City. There are numerous mines in this region. Lincon Mine is another one nearby. It was the site for Leland Stanford's fortune which enabled him to build Stanford University.

The mine was developed in the 1980s for gold extraction. The mine did not last long in the later 1980s, which is why it became a place for a one hour underground tour where the Motherlode was found. Sutter Gold Mine examines the process of gold mining, including the history of how gold mining started to the more practical methods of today. Above ground there is a small area for gemstone mining for the kids.
